Creating an Account

Vigil offers multiple ways to create an account, all with zero KYC requirements.

Account Types

Email Account

Traditional account using email and password.

1. Navigate to app.vigilbtc.com
2. Enter your email address
3. Create a strong password
4. Verify your email (optional, but required for email notifications)

Privacy Tip

Use a pseudonymous email address for increased privacy. Services like ProtonMail or SimpleLogin work well.

Nostr Account

Sign in using your Nostr identity for true decentralized authentication.

Requirements:

• A NIP-07 compatible browser extension (e.g., Alby, nos2x, Flamingo)

Steps:

1. Navigate to app.vigilbtc.com
2. Click "Sign in with Nostr"
3. Approve the sign request in your extension
4. Your account is created using your npub

Security Recommendations

Enable Passkey Authentication

After creating your account, we strongly recommend enabling passkey (WebAuthn) authentication:

1. Go to Account → Security
2. Click Add Passkey
3. Follow your browser/device prompts

Passkeys provide:

• Phishing-resistant authentication
• No password to steal
• Biometric or hardware key protection

Generate Recovery Codes

Recovery codes allow you to regain access if you lose your primary authentication method:

1. Go to Account → Security
2. Click Generate Recovery Codes
3. Store these codes securely offline

Important

Store recovery codes in a secure, offline location. They cannot be recovered if lost.
